John Smith trial in Anime Vanguards (AV)

Search volume treats “John Smith trial” and “Smith John trial” as the same fight. On the official tier list revised 2026-09-23, the utility sixteen includes Smith John. I am using that spelling when I cite the list, and the search spelling in the title so the page can be found. The unit is not in the overall top 8.

Trial reward versus unit obtainment

The Smith John unit page lists Smith John Unit Trial as the source for the Disguising Mask Vanguard familiar. That is not the same route as obtaining the unit: the page says Ruined City Raid Act 1 or Act 2 supplies Delusional Boy, then shows an evolution into Smith John.

The evolution requirements shown are Atomic Essence ×1, Green Essence ×40, Purple Essence ×30, Blue Essence ×30, Rainbow Essence ×3 and 30,000 Gold. No takedowns are required for that evolution. Disguising Mask is unit-specific; it is not a freely equippable replacement for another unit's familiar.

The source does not establish a tested post-v15 trial squad, wave chart or unlock threshold. General team suggestions are not advertised here as a guaranteed clear.

Other trial names in search data, including Boo, Dante, Roku, and Dawntay, are in the same position. Dawntay (Jackpot) is also on that utility sixteen.
